Teacher Week: Classroom Digs!

Alright y'all. I had to sit through the world's most incredibly boring training today at another school and did not get a chance to go by my classroom and take any pictures. So I'm going to show you my before pictures that I took a few weeks ago and then will leave you in suspense for the after pictures that I will hopefully be able to get on Thursday.

                  View from the door

           Activboard and Reading Loft

Front of the classroom. I have begged every year for them the replace my chalkboard with a white board but no  such luck just yet.

Check back soon for the after pictures!

Teacher Week 2013: 10 Things About Me!

Oh.My.Word! I am EXHAUSTED! Today was our first in-service day and getting up at 5:30 after sleeping in all summer was not pleasant at all! This post isn't going to be very fancy but I couldn't miss out on my opportunity to link up with all these other fabulous teachers for Teacher Week 2013!

Here are my 10 random things!
1.
My husband and I have been married for 9 years. We actually met on a blind date when I was in college and went home with a friend for the weekend. She was seeing a guy in her hometown and he brought David along with him. We have been together ever since!

2.
I have two precious boys! Taylor is 6 and will be in first grade and right next door to me this year. Riley is 3 and a complete mess! There is never a dull moment around our house!

3.
The beach is my happy place! I could spend weeks just sitting with my toes in the sand and watching the waves. My boys definitely agree with me!

4.
I am a proud graduate of The University of Alabama! Roll Tide! I go to all the home games with my dad and love the time we get to spend together.

5.
I am adopted. My parents tried for years to have children and then decided to pursue adoption. I was adopted on August 14th an my brother was born the following August 10th! 2 years later my sister was born! I know absolutely nothing about my biological mother. I would like to know family history but really do not have a desire to meet her.

6.
I was born in New York and lived there until the summer before second grade when we moved to Huntsville, Alabama.

7.
I could eat Chick-fil-A for dinner every night!

8.
My favorite color is pink.

9.
I love to shop. Especially for my boys. I have made it my mission to make sure my boys look cute and matched at all times. The sales associates at Gymboree and I are on a first name basis!
10.
This is my 9th year teaching and my 8th year teaching first. I taught kindergarten for one year but first is definitely my love.

Check back tomorrow when Teacher Week 2013 continues!

Favorite Pins Friday

I am linking up with the adorable Cara Carroll over at The First Grade Parade for her
Favorite Pins Friday.

Considering that the extent of my professional development this summer has been pinning tons of ideas for next year, I should have plenty of favorite pins to share with y'all!

Favorite Teaching Related Pins

My FAVORITE new way to use QR codes. When students earn a reward, they can draw from a basket that has QR code cards. They scan the card to see what they won! Woohoo! I will be using this with my first graders this year!

Last year, my district went to a 1:1 digital curriculum and all of my little firsties have their own iPad to use in the classroom. I love this idea of scanning QR code behavior coupons! No more having to keep the treasure box stocked and the coupons can be used over and over!
A Cupcake for the Teacher: A Bright Year {a Craftivity}

I love everything from A Cupcake for the Teacher and this craftivity is going to look adorable hanging outside in the hallway!

These helpers from Michelle over at Fabulous in First are going to be just great for my firsties to keep in their desks!

Food Related Pins

A pinner said "apparently this is so addicting (baked sweet and sour chicken). everyone loves it! 7 pts (probably less because you don't use all the corn starch and egg) ***I HAVE MADE THIS THE LAST 2 NIGHTS FOR DINNNER!! PROBABLY THE BEST THING I HAVE MADE OFF OF PINTEREST!**

OMG! I made this sweet and sour chicken for dinner last weekend and it was AMAZING! It was a little time-intensive but was definitely worth it in the end. The recipe for the fried rice was also delicious!

Random Pins

teach a child to tie their shoes using a jump rope so they can see a larger view of what is happening.

Need to work on this with my soon-to-be firstie!

Merge a photo of your child with their own artwork (and other cool photoshop tricks).

I think this looks AMAZING but I have no idea how to do it! This link has some great ideas using Photoshop.

Dog collars w/ name. No more jingle from the dog tag!!

Love this idea for the dog! All that jingling can drive me crazy sometimes!

Hope you enjoyed my favorite pins! Have a great weekend!

July Currently!

I can't believe it is July already! I also can't believe my summer is half over. =( This upcoming year is going to be full of so much change an I just don't handle change very well. But since it is July, I am joining up with Farley over at Oh' Boy 4th Grade for her monthly currently. I love this linky!

Listening
This is actually one of the rare moments that my boys are actually playing nicely and quietly together! They love each other, but boy can they annoy each other to death! But it's times like these that make me glad I had two boys because they really are the best of friends.

Tee ball is finally OVER! Woohoo!

Loving
We have been pretty much nothing but L.A.Z.Y this summer! We wake up late, hang out in our pj's, head over to the Y for me to Zumba and for them to play and then hit the pool till nap time. It has been great!

Thinking
So now I am starting to realize that since my summer is half over, I probably need to start tackling all those items on my to do list. Laundry, clean, organize, TpT stuff... I really need to get on the ball because summer will be over before I know it and an unorganized house is only going to add to my stress level!

Wanting
I am really wanting to go to the beach again before the end of the summer. We went right before school was out for a few days but another trip would be wonderful. We were supposed to go on a big trip to Busch Gardens, Sea World, and Disney World at the end of July but my husband changed jobs so we have to postpone the trip until he has built up his vacation time. But I am ok with this because the new job=more money!

Needing
Like I said, I need to be cleaning, organizing, and doing laundry!

Advice
When I started selling on Teachers Pay Teachers last October, I thought that I had to done everything at once. I needed to fill my store, I needed to start a blog, I needed to start a Facebook page, etc. My advice is to start with one thing and when you are comfortable with that, move on to the next thing.

I hope everybody has a fabulous Fourth of July!
